Lanzarote is one of the seven Canary Islands. The popular Spanish owned group which are located in the Atlantic, just off the west African coast of Morocco. Just four hours flying time away from important tourist markets such as the UK and Germany.
Despite the current recession Lanzarote will still welcome well over one million visitors this year. With many bookings being made now for the coming winter season. As the Canaries are the closest genuine winter sun destination to mainland Europe.
Winter Weather
During the winter months the mercury still touches 20 degrees Celsius plus on the island – even in the depths of December and January. Making it possible to enjoy beach holidays in Lanzarote all year round. Rainfall is very low, whilst the sun sets much later here than in northern Europe. Never disappearing much before 18.00.
Accommodation
There are plenty of accommodation options for holidaymakers. As the island offers everything from luxury boutique hotels in the countryside through to basic studio apartments in the main resorts.

During the winter months many visitors book accommodation in Playa Blanca. Which is located right at the southern foot of the island and hence enjoys the best weather. Here there are good quality four star hotels lining the seafront. Whilst those who prefer self catering accommodation can choose from a large selection of Lanzarote holiday villas and apartments.
Getting To Lanzarote
Lanzarote is serviced by all of the leading low cost operators such as easyJet, Monarch and Ryanair. With flights to Lanzarote available from all major UK airports and prices starting at around £100 return.
Things To Do
Lanzarote´s best known and most popular attraction is the Timanfaya National Park. Scene of a series of enormous eruptions centuries ago. Which have covered much of the interior of the island in lava, punctuated with now dormant volcanic peaks. This awe inspiring terrain is very surreal and has often been compared to the surface of the moon.
The legacy of these volcanic eruptions is evident across the island. In the wine region vines are grown with a mulch derived from volcanic chippings. Whilst the famous local artist César Manrique features the colours and textures of the region in many of his paintings.
As you’d expect from a popular holiday destination Lanzarote also boasts an abundance of great beaches. With Famara in the north and Papagayo in the south regarded as two of the finest stretches of sand on the island – if not in the whole of the Canaries.
