The tradition of high tea goes back many years to the late 1700s. In England at that time there were only two meals a day served at breakfast and dinner so it was a very long time in between meals. The Duchess of Bedford invented afternoon tea to keep her going until dinner time. She would invite friends to join her for tea at 5pm and other hostesses quickly followed suite. Food at tea would include thin crust-less sandwiches, toasted breads with jams and pastries, scones or crumpets, the emphasis was on presentation and conversation. The art of high tea is alive and well in Brisbane. There are lots of places where you can enjoy a lovely pot of loose leaf tea accompanied by light sandwiches and delicious tarts and pastries. The Brasserie is located on the river at the Stamford Plaza. This locations offers specialties such as chocolate infused buffet, or if you prefer a traditional menu, their baked goods, pastries, tea and coffee will please any palate.

Queenies Traditional Tea house in Nundah is an intimate old style building and has a seating capacity of around 30m people.
